Karen Oberthaler, VMD, ACVIM, obtained her Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Bioengineering from the University of Pennsylvania. She graduated magna cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania’s College of Veterinary Medicine. In 2003, she completed a one-year rotating small animal internship in medicine and surgery at the Animal Medical Center in New York.
Dr. Oberthaler returned to the University of Pennsylvania for medical oncology training and completed her residency there. During her residency, she conducted research on feline and canine lymphoma and on the chemopreventative properties of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Her clinical interests include lymphoma, osteosarcoma, mast cell tumors, hemangiosarcoma, and bladder cancer. Additionally, she is interested in cancer prevention and palliative care.
Dr. Oberthaler has been part of NYC Veterinary Specialists since its inception in 2006.
